The “Blue Wonder” is the popular name of the Loschwitz Bridge in Dresden. It was opened in 1893 and officially called the “King Albert Bridge” until 1921. The bridge connects the districts of Blasewitz and Loschwitz across the Elbe.
It owes its nickname to its blue color and the then-novel steel truss construction with no piers, which made it a technical marvel. Unlike many other Elbe bridges, it remained undamaged during the Second World War as Dresden's citizens prevented it from being blown up.
Today, the Blue Wonder is considered a landmark of Dresden and is a listed building.
