The Haus der Wirtschaft, a conference and congress centre built between 1889 and 1896, is located in the heart of Stuttgart. It is considered one of the most imposing and largest buildings in the city. In the past, the building served as an exhibition venue for trade and commerce. Today, the building houses the SME policy department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, among many other institutions. It also has about 5 500 square metres of exhibition space. In the meantime, the building has been listed as a historical monument.
